Gaiac 1 is an example of a two-piece sculpture she created. The two parts are an exploration of balance and interaction. This work is designed to be complimentary to each other creating harmony and balance. The creation of the dynamic relationship between the components of her work exemplifies her interest in symmetry and geometry. Her work is always sensitive to the nuances of its environment: to the landscape, to the subtle inflections of changing light, to wind and water, and to architecture.

About the Artist:

Marta Pan (French, b. 1923) was born in Budapest, Hungary. She moved to France in 1947 where she found influence in the works of Constantin Brancusi and Fernand Leger. As a French abstract sculptor, she created works with balance, geometry, and symmetry. Pan Created Le Teck in 1956 which consisted of sculptures with two movable parts. Pan’s sculptures were all built this way until the 1960’s which allowed the piece to be moved, thus creating new art installations.
